Basseterre, St. Kitts – The programmes and initiatives of the Advancement of Children Foundation (ACF) were front and centre at a recent Rotary Club of Liamuiga regular breakfast meeting at the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club. Chairperson of the ACF Board, Ms Naeemah Hazelle visited the Club on Wednesday May 25, 2016 and delivered an impressive presentation to the gathering. Ms. Hazelle noted that ACF’s Mission is to positively affect the life of the children and youth in our community, by creating an environment that is conducive to learning, growth and contribution, replete with community and family support, and free of violent and negative coercive forces. She informed the Rotarians and guests that the ACF has provided grant funding for many projects over the last 8 years. Most recently the ACF has approved projects for:
- In-Nae Taekwondo Club to purchase Taekwondo floor mats and Taekwondo protective gears.
- Recognizing Art Through Vibrant Expression (R.A.V.E); a dance programme for youth in the St. Peters area.
- Conaree Management Team to purchase equipment for a children’s play park and also desktop computers.
- Nexxt Generation United to purchase food and refreshments, purchase/printing of uniforms and radio ads/marketing/promotion as part of their youth empowerment programme.
The ACF has also recently supported the efforts of the Society for the Blind by providing financial support for the procurement of braille equipment and material. The ACF was established in June 2008 to counteract the trend of rising violence and anti-social behaviour amongst our youths through the promotion of good parenting, family and social values. The Foundation is the brainchild of Charles Wilkin, QC and was founded jointly by the Rotary Club of St. Kitts and the Rotary Club of Liamuiga.
